Architecture Hamburg

ArkiTours’ program includes:
 
  • Visit to a state elementary school, with children from more than 100 nationalities in a multicultural district
  • Climate-friendly housing: guided tours of different parts of Wilhelmsburg and Weltquartier, where the City has experimented with various types of climate-friendly initiatives, from rainwater harvesting to special façades, solar panels, wooden buildings and so on. Much of it was established between 2006 and 2013 as part of a massive urban development initiative that spans 10 city districts and covers both new housing and commercial properties. 
  • Visit to the City of Hamburg’s municipal waste department, including to discuss recycling strategies and a positive dialogue with citizens on keeping the city clean
  • Liveability: Urban planning and successful public spaces in a former industrial area: walking tour in HafenCity with a city planner. City plan and public spaces developed by Miralles & Tagliabue and EMBT Arquitectes Associates.Visit to the city’s newest landmark, Elbphilharmonie, designed by Herzog & de Meuron (2017)
  • Walk through the beautifully restored Alter Elbtunnel back to the city centre.
