JAPAN

Tradition and technology combined

Japanese architecture is known for its unique ability to combine traditional craftsmanship with modern technological innovations. On this trip, you will experience how energy efficiency and sustainable solutions, such as the use of earth, wind and solar energy, play a central role in Japanese construction. We visit both historic temples and modern masterpieces by renowned architects such as Tadao Ando, Hiroshi Hara, Kengo Kuma, SANAA, Yoshio Taniguchi and Ryue Nishizawa.

The role of nature in Japanese architecture

A recurring theme in Japanese architecture is the strong connection to nature. This is clearly seen in everything from Zen Buddhist gardens to modern buildings, where the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces merge. On our trip, you will gain insight into how nature is integrated into private homes, public buildings and commercial projects.
