Open Study Tours for Individuals
We are excited to introduce a new initiative: open study tours for individuals! This gives you the opportunity to join unique architecture programs, whether you are traveling alone or as part of a small group. Here are the two programs we currently offer:
1. Program: Japan 2026 – Where Nature and Architecture Intertwine
How do Japanese architects work with nature as an active co-creator of form, space, and rhythm? How are centuries-old construction methods combined with modern technologies and digital tools to support sustainable building practices? In autumn 2026, we invite you to join an exclusive study program to Japan, offering rare access to projects and perspectives not typically open to the public. The full program will be developed in summer 2025, after which registration will open.
Architecture at the intersection of philosophy and function
Japan is renowned for its unique ability to balance the intimate with the advanced. Throughout the journey, you’ll visit both landmark contemporary buildings and quiet architectural transformations set in the landscape. You'll meet architects and experts working with everything from prefabrication and energy efficiency to material reuse and traditional joinery techniques. The focus lies on interdisciplinary insight, and on the dialogue between spatial sensitivity and technological precision.
Thematic focus for 2026
-
Nature and architectural thinking
How are spaces and urban landscapes shaped by natural principles and what role do silence, cycles, and landscape play in Japanese spatial planning? -
Compact cities and green infrastructure
How does Tokyo and its surrounding areas manage urban density? We’ll explore superblocks, recreational design, and the integration of green public space. -
Materials and transformation
Japanese architecture builds on a deep tradition of reuse and flexibility. We’ll look into circular principles and the aesthetics of the temporary and adaptable. -
Between tradition and technology
Japan is a global leader in prefabrication, energy-optimized design, and digital construction technologies. We examine how these innovations coexist with ancient building crafts and techniques.
Japan reveals how resource-efficiency and quality of life can go hand in hand, and how architecture becomes a means to listen to both place and time.
